How to Build a Wardrobe on a Budget and Still Look Like a Celebrity.
When I think of building a wardrobe on a budget, basics and
accessories come to mind. Accessories are the best way to dress up basics. Not
only can both be found to fit a tight budget, but when found at the right
stores, you can be looking like a celebrity in no time!
What I love most about basics is the fact that they are a
blank canvas. With wearing mostly basics you have free reigns to add a TON of
accessories, how fun!
So what are basics? Basics are timeless pieces that can be
paired with almost anything in your closet. These are pieces you can carry with
you season-to-season, year-by-year, as they never go out of style.
When building a wardrobe, stocking up on basics is the first
step.
If you stick to this “Basic list” you will be prepared to
start mixing and matching for every season.
- · Tank top- long and short
- · Short sleeve shirt- long and short
- · Quarter sleeve shirt- long and short
- · Long sleeve shirt- long and short
- · Black Leggings
- · Black Pleather pants
- · Jeggings
- · High waist jeggings
- · Pants
- · Black Pencil skirt
- · Black shorts
- · Black and white high waist shorts
- · Tights
- · Little black dress
- · Black pumps
Let’s talk tops
Basic tops are great to put under blazers and cardigans during
the cooler seasons yet, they are also perfect to stand-alone during a warmer
season. Basic tops should be bought in both short and long versions. Shorter
tops are great for pants with a high waist, and longer tops are great with
leggings. Basic tops should be bought in black white, grey, and tan. These are
colors that will never go out of style and match with almost everything! Basic
tops should also be bought with different length sleeves not only for different
seasons, but for blazers, cardigans, etc. This allows tank tops and short
sleeve shirts to be worn during the winter as well.
Let’s talk bottoms
Leggings are a staple in every wardrobe. I love them! Not
only are they super comfy but also extremely versatile. They can be worn under
skirts, or alone with a long shirt, they can be worn with flats, heels or with
boots, they can be worn when you want to dress down, and even when you want to
dress up.
Jeggings are a must have. I love them because you can have
the look of jeans with comfort. They can be worn throughout any season when you
are dressed down, or dressed up.
Pleather pants are a favorite of mine. They just look great
paired with any type of shirt. Weather its tight, loose, cotton, or silk.
Tights are great to have for dresses, under dress pants, or
even with shorts during the winter for a super edgy look.
Lastly, every wardrobe should have a little black dress and
a pair of black pumps.
Now on to the super fun stuff… Accessories!
I am obsessed with piling a ton of accessories on when
wearing basics. Accessories are the majority of the look when shopping on a
budget because unlike pants and shirts the same accessory can be worn many days
in a row if you choose to do so.
Accessory must haves:
- · Watch in gold, silver, and white
- · Long pearl necklace
- · Black, gold, and silver earrings. I would suggest a stud earring in these colors, and a bulkier earring
- · Basic cubic zirconia studs
- · Pearl bracelet, spike bracelet, stud bracelet, bangles, tennis bracelet
- · Rings in gold, chrome, silver, and black
- · Scarves and belts
Keep in mind; all of these pieces do not have to be bought
at once. I’ve been building my basics up for a while, adding here and
there. On the other hand, being
that basics pieces are so inexpensive you could very well stock up on a good
amount of basics in one day.
My two best stores for buying basics are Forever 21 and
H&M. Most of my basic pieces I find for $5 at these stores. You can’t go
wrong with that! I’ve also got many basic pieces at Express and Macy’s. When I
choose to shop at those stores I always make sure I have a coupon.
Now let’s talk about looking like a celebrity. Sticking to
basics and dressing the look up with accessories is the simplest, and most
inexpensive way to look like a celebrity. In the pictures below of Kim Kardashian you can see how she uses basics to put together outfits.
